Chuir fear an tí Pat Cafferky fáilte Uí Cheallaigh roimh na moltóirí agus taispeánadh fís a bhí curtha le chéile go speisialta don ocáid ag Éamon O’ Boyle. Tugadh cuireadh do na moltóirí, i gcomhluadar Treasa Ní Ghearraigh, breathnú ar na taispeántais agus labhairt le hionadaithe ó na grúpaí pobail éagsúla in Iorras, a chuir in iúl dóibh a thábhachtaí is a bhí Turas na Gaeltachta agus a gceantar féin dóibh.
Conair oidhreachta é Turas na Gaeltachta ina bhfuil ceithre chlár eolais turasóireachta agus fiche scaipthe ar fud Ghaeltacht Iorrais. Tá sé furasta na cláranna a aithint mar gheall ar an díon os a gcionn, a thugann an tobar traidisiúnta chun chuimhne, agus go deimhin is tobar eolais atá iontu do chuairteoirí agus muintir na háite araon. Déanann na cláranna dhá-theangacha seo cuir síos ar chultúr, oidhreacht, litríocht, sheandalaíocht, bhéaloideas agus stair na háite agus cuirtear eolas ar fáil maidir le seirbhísí/áiseanna áitiúla. Tá an t-eolas seo nasctha le léaráidí bríomhara ildaite a théann go mór i bhfeidhm ar an duine atá ag dearcadh orthu. Is cuid den turas chomh maith Tír Sáile, conair dealbhóireachta de fiche dhealbh tíre atá suite ar feadh chósta thaibhsiúil Mhaigh Eo thuaidh. Beidh cláranna móra, a léiríonn an chonair uilig, suite ag Achadha Chéide, Beannchar, Béal Átha Chomhraic agus ag acomhal Acla/Mala Raithní.
Ba é grúpa oibre turasóireachta déanta suas de Chomhar Dún Chaocháin Teo, Chomhairle Chondae Mhaigh Eo agus Údarás na Gaeltachta a chuir tús le Turas na Gaeltachta. Fuair an togra maoiniú ó GhaelSaoire, Chomhairle Chondae Mhaigh Eo agus ó Údarás na Gaeltachta. Fógrófar torthaí an chomórtais i gCeatharlach Dé Sathairn an 14ú Deireadh Fómhair 06.

Teach Iorrais, Gaoth Sáile was a hive of activity on June 30th last when three adjudicators from the All-Ireland Pride of Place competition were in attendance to judge the Turas na Gaeltachta entry. The proceedings commenced with a warm welcome to the judges from fear an tí Pat Cafferky and a viewing of a video specially produced for the occasion by Eamon O’ Boyle. The judges were then invited to join Treasa Ní Ghearraigh as she took them on a tour of the exhibits and introduced them to representatives from the various community groups in Erris, who were given an opportunity to explain to the judges what Turas na Gaeltachta and their own place meant to them.
Turas na Gaeltachta (The Gaeltacht Journey) is a heritage trail featuring twenty four theme-specific tourist information boards dotted throughout the Iorras Gaeltacht, an area characterised by its unspoiled rugged landscape and outstanding beauty. Instantly recognisable by their overhead canopy the signs have been designed to evoke memories of the traditional well, and indeed are a well or source of information for visitors and locals alike. The bi-lingual boards describe the area’s culture, heritage, literature, archaeology, folklore, local history etc., which when combined with innovative graphics, have a very positive impact. They also provide information on what services/amenities are available in a given area. An integral part of the journey is Tír Sáile, a sculpture trail of 20 site-specific sculptures dotted along the spectacular North Mayo coastline. Gateway boards, showing the overall trail, will be located at Céide Fields, Bellacorick, Bangor and at the Achill/Mulranny junction.
Turas na Gaeltachta was initiated by a tourist working group comprising of Comhar Dún Chaocháin Teo, Mayo County Council and Udarás na Gaeltachta. The project was jointly funded by GaelSaoire, Mayo County Council and Udarás na Gaeltachta. We eagerly await the results of the competition which will be announced in Carlow on Saturday 14th October.
Éamonn Ó Cúiv, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs officially launched the Turas na Gaeltachta trail and its accompanying brochure in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel on 4th September last. Among the guest speakers were Tadhg Ó Cuinn and Ian Mac Aindriú (elected members of Údarás na Gaeltachta), Peter Hynes (Mayo County Council) and Bertie Ó Finneadha (GaelSaoire). The Minister acknowledged the immense work undertaken by the co-op and stated that this project was a model which could be extended to other Gaeltacht areas.

A week-long programme of activity, combining environmental enhancement works with social and cultural activities, gave the young people participating on the scheme an opportunity to develop various skills including team-building, leadership and decision-making skills. This marks the second year of operation for this unique youth work camp.
